Microsoft and Amazon will share intellectual property

Both sign a cross licensing agreement whereby each company may use the patents of another company. The movement of markets and new business makes strange bed fellows. This is the case of Microsoft and Amazon, who just signed a partnership whereby each company will have access to the patent portfolio of the opposite. This contract includes all licenses related to the Kindle reader and server technology, open source digital repository.

Details of the agreement were not disclosed and no one knows exactly what products the IP would be willing to share Redmond. What they have reported since the signing of Steve Ballmer is that this is not the first contract of this type and they have already signed similar agreements around 600, although Amazon privileges undoubtedly will be higher than the previously established any company.

The motivations for Microsoft on this collaboration could go for the improvement of its cloud computing and server technology through Amazon Simple Storage Service. Also access to Amazon’s e Reader technology could help Microsoft to develop a device that could make the shadow of Apple iPad

Select your browser in Mac OS X to Choose Wisely

Choose wisely is a small application for Mac OS X that will allow us to select the browser with which we open the link. It works when accessing an Internet address from the chat client, mail client or a shortcut, to give some examples.

The operation of the program is quite simple, the first thing to do after downloading, it set it as default browser. To do this we run the Safari browser and from the Preferences Choose Wisely will indicate that, from now, our default browser.

Now, whenever you click on a link in any program other than a browser will display the selection menu. To add to Choose Wisely browsers you simply drag its icon from the Applications folder.

The number of browsers can be configured in the application is limited to between five and viewing options that allows to display the version of each one of them and the address being accessed.

Choose wisely works in the latest version of Mac OSX, Snow Leopard and can be downloaded for free from the author’s website. The instructions on the page are in German, although as you have seen their operation is quite simple and intuitive.

The application is quite simple and the less useful, especially now that users coming from Windows are more used to choose the browser. Leaving that point aside, it is still quite useful when testing pages in different browsers and can open them quickly.
